Malaysian Scholarships

admin January 13th, 2008

I’ve came back from California and I’m gonna start classes tomorrow! =) But this post, I want to dedicate to my sister, Aisya, who has just finished her Form 5 and will soon start her university years..

Scholarships that you MUST apply if you are in the same boat as her a.k.a. just graduated from high school:

1) MARA
- if you are from MRSM schools. They have been known to favor MRSM students.
- if you are not from MRSM schools, you can still apply. During my year, we are not allowed to apply to both scholarship (MARA & JPA), so, we have to choose one. If you can apply both, then, apply both. If the rules during our year (SPM 2003) still applies to you, then, choose between MARA and JPA.

Dunno which one to apply?
Let me give you a tip. If you are a Malay and you didn’t get more than 6 A1, I suggest you apply MARA since JPA has very tough competitions. During my year, there were 130,000 people applied to JPA, 13,000 people selected to go interviews and only 1,300 people got scholarship.

2) JPA
- everyone from any schools. Apply!!!!!!!!

3) Petronas
- Pretty tough interviews. It’s up to them whether they want to offer you to overseas or local (Universiti Teknologi Petronas). But they will really pamper you like you are a platinum. If you go overseas especially around Australia and New Zealand areas, you will get a lot of pocket money, nice housing and also free food for dinner (chicken rice). So, on top of it, you save money and save time because you don’t have to cook.

4) Telekom
- Apply to Multimedia University and they will offer you a scholarship if you have awesome results in your SPM. They probably have separate forms for scholarship so make sure you ask. =) My friend said that if you excel extraordinarily during your first year in Multimedia University (the foundation year), they will consider sending you to study abroad. Remember, ask!

5) Tenaga Nasional Berhad
- Apply to UNITEN and they will offer you a scholarship if you have awesome results in your SPM. They probably have separate forms for scholarship so make sure you ask. =) My friend said that if you excel extraordinarily during your first year in UNITEN (the foundation year), they will consider sending you to study abroad. Remember, ask!

There you go. The 5 TOP MOST WANTED scholarships that YOU DEFINITELY HAVE TO APPLY FOR. =)

Good luck!!
