Self Improvement & Success

admin December 24th, 2007

How do we know if an individual is willing to improve himself? No exact answer could satisfy this question since the determination will depend on the individual.

Everyone has their own ambitions and missions but most of them possibly do not know how to achieve their goals. They might have put some thoughts on self improvement in order to attain the ideal life that they have always wanted, however, they might not have any idea on how to start their plan in order for them to succeed.

If you believe that self-improvement is good, then, I am happy for you. If not, read on. In this little world, there are 3 types of people who are left behind:

1. There are people who believe that they can improve if only they had more money. They spent only little time thinking of what they really want from life. These people do not absolutely believe that there is anything they can do to make their dreams come true.

2. Some people do not even know what they want to actually achieve from their lives and might not even know what would make them really happy. These people seem to just live the world by the days without much future planning. Usually, these people have secure jobs which earns just enough to live comfortable lives. They thought that they are happy enough and have no further ambitions to achieve more than what they currently have.

3. There are also some individuals who do not have solid idea on self improve. These are the pessimistic ones that believe that if only they had a better paying job, or had better opportunities, or anything else - everything would be fine and they would be happy. These people also always find excuses for not getting success. They feel that external factors decide their happiness or sadness. They believe that their thoughts and actions play minor roles in their lives.

Is self improvement important?

We have to admit that the reality is that we are all constantly developing throughout our lives. Experience and circumstances teaches us to help us grow and develop, most of the times subconsciously.

Until certain age which varies from one person to another, we learn through formal education such as schools. For the rest of our lives, we continue to learn and develop our knowledge and skills through our experiences. We have to learn to adapt with everything that life throws at us, sometimes violently. We learn to improve ourselves through all these.

During this modern era, everyone has many opportunities to do anything that we want to do with our life than ever before. However, this also means that there is a lot more competition, and rapidly changing technology means that there really are very few ‘jobs for life’ anymore. Now, it is normal for people to change jobs quite often in order to survive, sometimes people even completely change their careers and industries in order to keep up with the modern world.

Since the workplace is now very highly competitive, those who are ambitious and hungry for success know that in order to be ahead of the pack, they need to learn new skills and knowledge. This shows that self improvement is crucial to achieve success. A huge and endless commitment to self improvement and personal growth will decide how anyone’s future will turn out to be.

In your opinions, what is the best way to improve oneself besides using experience as a guidance? Post them in the comments section below =)
