I’m Back!!!
admin November 4th, 2007
I am back from the Temple Open!! =) I was happy because I definitely fenced better than I ever did before. However, I was a bit sad with my placing number. I was number 47 out of 94 total. =(
Well, actually, the number doesn’t mean anything. I could be so lucky and have all new fencers in my pool and get top 10, or, I could be so good but so unlucky that I was placed in the same pool as Olympian fencers who had fenced for 8 years - and got number 90. Who knows? I don’t really like the method of how they determine your placing but that is the only way it can be done. You can only fence 8 people out of the 94 total. If you’re lucky and all the 8 fencers are new fencers - then, you’re going to be among the top 10. Yeah, it does sound unfair but that is the easiest and simplest way for the tournament to be conducted.
In case if anyone is wondering what fencing is, I embedded the video below for you! Of course, this is not Temple Open. I think this is Olympics in Athens (if I’m not mistaken). Enjoy!
Anyway, here is my Temple Open history:
Season 2007-2008 (junior year): 4 wins 4 loses (number 47 out of 94)
Season 2006-2007 (sophomore year): i don’t remember win-lose (number 39 out of 66)
Season 2005-2006 (Freshman Year): i don’t remember win-lose (number 58 out of 73)
But what had made me happy yesterday was that I could tell that my fencing definitely improved by A LOT since last year and 2 years ago. I was fast, crisp and clean. Lol. Maybe not 100% clean attacks but the percentage at least improved.
But I really want to improve more. I need a lot more explosion power, techniques and good strategy. I want to be the TOP PERFORMER. All victories! =)
P/s: Well, it is hard to be a good student-athlete. But I love it - since I love fencing, I love Linda (our coach) and I love my fencing buddies!! Hohoho.
..and guess what? I got bored with my previous template that I decided to change it to this one =) I haven’t personalize it yet.. probably I’ll do that during winter break ^_^
