Ups and Downs - Part 1
admin August 9th, 2007
I’ve realized that my blog covers so many different kinds of topics that it begins to slack off from the original point - journey to the West. Therefore, I will write some articles that focuses on my journey at least once a week and I really hope they would help some people even though these articles might be long. If you think some of your friends might like the article, don’t forget to tell them to come by!
My family:

We will not always get what we want in life. We want to be a winner but we will not win all the time. All of us must have faced some kind of loses and failures at some points in our life. These failures should not be considered as a reason to stop and give up. In fact, accept these as a challenge. If you need strength to face them, talk honestly to your family members, especially your parents since they are sincere and they will only want the best for you. They are the ones that you can trust.
I, for many times before, has felt being a failure. I dropped head over heels, spent days crying, exaggerating something that is not that big. I’ve always wanted to become the best student when I start my secondary school. Almost all of my friends are studious. That is one of the extra point when living in a dormitory. You will want to study when you see everyone else studying.

I’ve always been put into the first class when I was in primary school without much effort. To tell you the truth, I didn’t do any studying on my own when I was in primary school. I just attend tuitions my mother made. I even sometimes blamed the teachers for giving too much homework. Wow, when thinking back, I actually was kind of a nuisance. Hehe.. However my curricular activity was a bit deteriorating back then. I was in bola jaring but we didn’t win any medal. I wanted to represent my school in “Deklamasi Sajak” but was rejected.

However, when I attend Maahad Hamidiah in form 1, everything has become different. I was placed on second last class since I did terribly in the Arabic placement test. It was my first time not being put into the first class. But I didn’t feel that bad anyway. I found my classmates to be so interesting! They have their own ideas of being fun. I love that class very much! Even when I enjoy being in the second last class, I start studying since I just can’t bear not sitting in the first class. At least, that was what I think when I was young. It was as if I have turned into a different person. If you know me that time, you will say that I was the nerdiest person ever. You will not find me without a book. I spent less than 5 hours sleeping and the rest 18 hours studying.

But oh well, it appeared that my strategy was wrong. Even though I got admitted to the first class for my second year, I was well, second to last. If there were 2 other persons who get higher marks than me, I’ll be kicked into the second class. However, I didn’t realize that I studied hard instead of smart and I kept doing that, until I got number 36 out of 40. Haih.. so disappointing. I cried. [Random fact about me: I'm a crybaby]

However, I eventually learned my mistakes and try to mend them. I even go further to enhance my co-curricular instead of just focusing on studying. Alhamdulillah, I have organized my first trip to Petrosains. The first thing that I have ever organized.

I’ve made a lot of friends in Maahad, a school to be remembered. I often said that I hate Maahad but if I look back, there are such good memories there (and of course, bad ones). I’ve made a lot of good friends there. You can see our smiling faces in those pictures. There is a place that I grew up and a place that teaches me maturity. After gaining my confidence, I started to join everything like sajak and pantun.
I regretted for saying that I hate Maahad. If you had ever heard that I said it before, I want to admit that I want to take it back. I love Maahad and I love all my friends there.

I began to know that there is a lot more to studying than just burying my face deep into the books. When I was in form 4, I moved to Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor.
You might be wondering that these stories do not actually happen at the West, but these are the steps I’ve taken unknowingly that contribute to the journey of me going to the West.
I’ll tell you my stories in Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor in part 2. =)
